About

hello handmade is a place for independent, handmade design and original ideas. hello handmade wants to support the growing handmade-scene and provide a new network for its creative members as well as other parties interested in their products, projects and ideas.
The founder of hello handmade is Sophie Pester, a designer, who is active in the handmade-scene for nearly 10 years. Sophie founded her handmade label (www.jodii.de) in the summer of 2007 and wrote a blog (www.jodiijodii.blogspot.com) from 2009-2010 which features many talented, mostly young creative people from Europe. Handmade products are sold all over the world, mainly through online-shops like Etsy and Dawanda which have experienced an enormous growth over the last few years. In addition, more and more “real” shops offer handmade products.
Handmade is a trend which has started to attract the attention of the media and society as a whole. With a growing number of actors and activities, however, the need to orient oneself in this scene grows as well, and those who are active in the scene need to find their own position in it. hello handmade offers a place for both: it offers a fine selection of products to an interested audience and provides opportunities for those who make them to get to meet each other and develop and nurture their mutual interests. hello handmade supports the DIY revolution and presents the handmade economy as an alternative to mass production and oportunity to rethink consumerism.
The website www.hello-handmade.com, features news from the handmade scene, portraits interesting people and products, and informs about the upcoming activities of hello handmade. These are:
- A market in an attractive location in Hamburg which invites designers and creatives to exhibit and sell their products on-site once a year.
- An online gallery which offers a selected group of creative people a shared exhibition space all year round,
- An online competition with a specific handmade theme for creatives from all over Europe,
